"LeBron Shines, But Lakers Drop Game 3 to Wolves"
LeBron James gave it everything on Friday night, but the Lakers suffered a tough Game 3 loss to the Wolves.
Despite a monster performance from LeBron James, the Lakers dropped a brutal Game 3 to the Timberwolves on Friday night, falling 116-104.
Los Angeles trailed for much of the night, leaning heavily on LeBron to keep them in it — including a stretch of three straight 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. Turnovers proved costly, as the Lakers committed 16 giveaways that led to 28 Minnesota points.
Anthony Edwards took over late, sealing the win for the Wolves with a clutch 3-pointer that put Minnesota up nine with just over a minute remaining.
LeBron did everything he could, finishing with 38 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists — 22 of those points coming in the first half. Austin Reaves added 20 points and 7 rebounds. Luka Dončić, battling a stomach bug, posted 17 points (6-16 shooting) along with 7 rebounds and 8 assists.
Rui Hachimura and Dorian Finney-Smith each chipped in 8 points, with Rui also providing stellar defense. Jordan Goodwin stepped up with important fourth-quarter minutes, contributing 3 points, 2 rebounds, a steal, and a block.
The game opened with promise as Rui scored early, but Minnesota quickly asserted themselves with an 11-0 run, fueled by tough defense and efficient offense. Turnovers plagued LA early, coughing the ball up four times in the first four minutes.
Despite the early struggles, Austin Reaves sparked a mini-run with a pair of threes and a slick assist to Jarred Vanderbilt. The Lakers trailed by six at the end of the first quarter.
Minnesota extended their lead early in the second after a turnover led to a Naz Reid and-one. Yet, LeBron kept LA in it, scoring six straight points and leading a 13-2 run that gave the Lakers a brief lead. The Wolves, however, capitalized on LA’s mistakes, and foul trouble for Reid offered little reprieve.
By halftime, the Lakers clung to a slim four-point lead, but free-throw woes (5-11 in the first half) were already haunting them.
The second half started rough for LA as Edwards and Jaden McDaniels scored all of Minnesota’s first 10 points. Although Austin Reaves and LeBron tried to answer back, careless turnovers continued to kill momentum.
Minnesota’s defense forced more mistakes, and despite timely 3-pointers from Rui, Dorian, and Luka, the Lakers ended the third quarter trailing by two.
In the final quarter, the Wolves quickly pushed their lead to five. Aside from a Gabe Vincent layup, LeBron was again the Lakers' only real offensive threat. His three consecutive deep threes electrified the game, but Minnesota answered every blow, slowly rebuilding a small cushion.
Luka Dončić briefly tied the game with a one-handed fadeaway, but Ant Edwards responded with a flurry of plays that reestablished the Wolves' lead.
A devastating three-minute scoring drought doomed LA, and Edwards and McDaniels delivered the final blows, closing out a tough loss for the purple and gold.
